Grief Support & Healing After the Loss of a Pet

We love our animals and we care deeply for them, as do you. But we know, sadly, at some point we have to let them go. We know this can be a difficult process for individuals and families. The loss can be just like losing a human friend or family member. When a pet dies, we can help connect you to an appropriate funeral home in the Urbana, Ijamsville, Buckeystown, and Green Valley area, and we can recommend resources for dealing with your loss. We can’t eliminate the pain and sadness, but we do have experience and can provide advice that may help.18088430-pet-loss

The relationship with a family pet can be very significant and a prominent source of comfort and companionship. You should understand that grief related to the loss of a pet is normal and natural, and we all experience it in different ways. No matter who you are or how you feel, we hope you will find the information in this section of our website to be helpful.

Although every person and every relationship with a pet is different, there are many aspects of grief that we share in common. Grief is a natural adjustment to change that involves complex emotional, physical, and behavioral experiences. Some grieve for only a short time; for others the process can last months. Even the first full year after a loss can be difficult as you recall the different seasons and events associated with your beloved family pet.

Time can help. But it can be important to engage with others—fellow pet owners, family, or a professional—to help you navigate this period of transition. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if there is anything we can do to help.
